Belinda Jeffery news and events

belinda jeffery's news and events

1 march 2013

I feel as though I should be starting this note with a ‘ta...dah!’ as my new-look website is up and running as of today. My very talented designer, Gatya Kelly, has been beavering away upgrading the site to incorporate lots of different photos and a number of new pages, including an archive and a page for each of my books, which not only tells you more about them but includes reviews and links to interviews. I hope you like it!

Apart from this, there is rather a lot happening this month. First off, my new book, simply called Belinda Jeffery, will be on the bookshelves from mid-March, and released as an EBook in the not too distant future. It’s part of the new and rather fabulous Lantern Cookery Classics collection which brings together the best-of-the-best recipes from a number of truly wonderful Australian cooks and chefs (including Kylie Kwong, Maggie Beer, Stephanie Alexander, and Manu Feildel). I’m thrilled to bits to be part of the collection, and absolutely love the books. Although I would have to say it took my editor and me ages to choose which recipes to include in my book and which to cull, especially as we were trying to keep in mind the dishes that many of you have written to me about and declared as your favourites too. However it’s been well worth it, as the result is a really special selection of much-loved recipes.

The next thing that’s happening, and it’s something that’s very close to my heart, is Meat Free Week which runs from the 18th – 24th of March. The whole idea of this event is not about turning everyone into vegetarians, but about making all of us more aware of how much meat we eat, where that meat comes from, and the cost to the animals, our health, and the environment when we over-consume it. I was asked to become involved in this event some months ago and can only urge you to go to the Meat Free Week website to find out more about it; to register for the Challenge, and to take part with me in a week of absolutely delicious, meat-free meals (there are no-end of terrific recipes on the website).

Lastly, for those of you who missed out on my book signing at The Pepper Tree Kitchen in Lismore, I shall be back there as part of the shop’s birthday celebrations on Thursday 21st of March from 10am – 11am to give an hour-long cooking demonstration of some of the recipes from my new Desserts cookbook. It would be lovely to see you there.

On a final note, I hope you enjoy browsing through these pages... and trying out my latest recipe for a really moist and rather gorgeous orange syrup cake, which seemed to me to be just the right thing to celebrate the new-look site!

Warmest wishes,
